Around 170 friends, colleagues and partners of Wessanen gathered at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, London, on Friday 15 September for a ‘Dinner and Dance for the Trees’ event in aid of the International Tree Foundation (ITF).
The evening began with a Clipper Cocktail reception in the Princess of Wales Conservatory, with live music provided by members of the London International Gospel Choir. Guests then enjoyed a short stroll over to the stunning Grade I listed Orangery for dinner, followed by a fundraising auction and live band.
To reinforce the purpose of the evening, Wessanen UK’s marketing director Gill Green welcomed guests with the sobering fact that when people wake up every morning, there are 27 million less trees on the planet than there were the day before.
She then went on to reflect on Wessanen UK’s successful first year of partnership with ITF, which has already resulted in 50,000 trees being planted and support being given to six community tree-planting projects in Cameroon, Ghana, Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar.
Timothy Hornsby, Chairman of ITF, replied by thanking Wessanen UK for the company’s support, as well as the creativity and motivation of Wessanen UK staff (better known as Team Tree) in fundraising for ITF.
After a vegetarian dinner with organic wine, guests enjoyed a live auction before dancing the evening away in style. In total, the event raised over £10,000 for ITF, enough to plant over 50,000 saplings!
