Pioneering food company, Wessanen UK, has been announced as a finalist at the Better Society Awards, which celebrates the efforts that commercial organisations make to create a better society.
Wessanen UK has been shortlisted in the Communication and Education category for the outstanding work delivered to raise awareness of the International Tree Foundation (ITF) and support for the charity’s 20m trees campaign.
The ethical business is in good company in the category which also includes Royal Mail, Borough Market and ITV.
Wessanen UK’s corporate support of ITF has made a considerable difference to date – during its first year, Wessanen UK helped to add 50,000 new trees to the Kenyan landscape and plant 200,000 trees across Africa to date.
The company supports three key elements: forest restoration, agroforestry and tree planting with school children. The partnership has also included a special Sustainable Community Forestry (SCF) grants programme, funding carefully chosen projects in Africa.
The shortlisting is in recognition of the hard work delivered across the business and specifically by Team Tree, a small group of passionate employees who act as ITF ambassadors within the business. This core team work collaboratively to communicate the charity’s news internally, drum up support for fundraising initiatives, and show staff members how their contribution is helping communities.
The awards are judged by an independent panel of experts looking to reward those who have made a genuine impact towards creating a better, more equal, ethical and sustainable world.
The winners will be announced at a dedicated awards ceremony in London on 24th May.
Wessanen UK was also recently a finalist at the World Food Innovation Awards in the Best Consumer Engagement Campaign category for the Whole Earth Nutting Compares to Fondue Bar; a highly enjoyable and educational live brand experience to engage the next generation of nut butter lovers.
